Principal Investigators
The principal investigators for the Indiana Health Study are Dr. Alfredo Lopez and Dr. Anantha Shekhar.
Dr. Alfredo Lopez is the Founder of and Medical Director at the Alivio Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana and is a Clinical Lecturer in Neurology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He also serves on the Sociedad de Amigos de Colombia’s Board of Directors. Dr. Lopez holds an M.D. from the Javeriana University School of Medicine in Bogota, Columbia and also received training at the National University of Colombia- Institute of Clinical Genetics. In 1994, Dr. Lopez completed an internship in internal medicine at Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. In 1997, he completed a residency in neurology at Loyola University also in Chicago. Dr. Lopez also completed a Cerebrovascular Disease Fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1999 and a fellowship in Public Service at New York University in 2007.
Dr. Anantha Shekhar is the Raymond E. Houk Chair of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine and is a professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurobiology, and Pharmacology. Dr. Shekhar is also the Associate Dean for Translational Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He holds an M.D. from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India and a Ph.D. in Medical Neurobiology from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Shekhar also completed a residency in psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1989 and a fellowship in medical neurobiology also at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
